The Pita Pit Story

The New Zealand Pita Pit story began a few years ago when two kiwi mates Chris Henderson and Duane Dalton backed themselves to bring an evolutionary fast food chain to New Zealand: where customers can eat something other than burgers, fries, pizza and dounuts. Henderson had previously experienced firsthand the Pita Pit product as a regular customer at American and Canadian stores and thought the timing was right to bring this innovative, high protein, low carb super healthy and fast food to kiwis.
Many of our paddlers are already converts to the Pita Pit fresh thinking, healthy eating philosophy, as a fresh pita is undoubtedly one of the best post/pre paddle feeds around.   You will frequently bump into paddlers at Pita Pits first and flagship store in Takapuna, but the Pita Pit trend is growing swiftly, you guys can pick up yummy pitas at any of the following stores

Pita Pit has been a foundation partner of the Paddling Project  since 2011 providing prize money, guidance and support, product prizes,  and great post paddling food for our punters at all of our 10km Winter Race Series events.  We have recently formalised this partnership and are excited about the Pita Pit 2011 – 12 Summer of Racing.  Check out our “Race Info” tab above for all the deets on that.

Looking good Duane but where are those V-bars?

It is no surprise that Pit Pit owner Duane Dalton is such a generous sole when it comes to local sports as he has a HUGE background in sport, specifically paddling himself.  In his early 20s Daune represented New Zealand in Surf Lifesaving as an ironman, swimmer, ski paddler; before honing his paddling skills and focusing on sprint Kayaking.  As a kayaker he represented New Zealand at numerous World Cup and World Champions racing in both K2s and K4s.  More recently he has been involved in coaching and management roles with the National Surf Lifesaving team and the North Harbour Rugby team.  As a double national representative and former World Champion (part of the National team that won the Rescue 1998 World Surf Lifesaving Championships at Long Bay – suck on that Aussies!) he knows that success in sport starts locally, which is why he is such an avid fan of our events.
Duane has been slowly getting back into his paddling but with the demands of his wildly successful business and his own young sports team at home his time on the water is limited.  We, however hope to see him racing at one of our events soon!
